There's a peak in Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest called The Nipple. I forget how I spotted the trail to it when I was searching for new trails to hike a week ago.... So often when we drive the various highway passes through  the Sierra Nevada we blaze along with a destination in mind. The twists and turns and steep sections on the road seem like obstacles slowing us down from getting to where we want to go. As enjoyable as the hike up to Winnemucca Lake near the Carson Pass in the Sierra Nevada is, spending time at Winnemucca Lake is nice, too. Thus once we reached the lake we explored its near side for a bit then found a nice place to sit for a picnic lunch a bit further around the shore.

After getting started early this morning on the hike to Winnemucca and Round Top lakes- our second try this weekend after an abortive attempt yesterday- we made good time on the first leg of the trip.
